Salzburg isn't nearly as pretty as made out to be, unless you cross the river or stay confined to the region near the Mozart-Haus. But just a few blocks walking will get you to places lovely enough, escaping up one of those little hills, or driving four miles to do some skiing. I'm here for interviews and concerts, those with Martin Helmchen (a very interesting conversation on faith in God and how it relates to musical repertoire) and Carolin Widmann (impossibly charming) already under the belt.
The Capuçon Bros. with Fröst and Tamestit will get things started today: Haydn, Mozart, Haydn. This will be followed by a concert with said Widmann & friends, alternating Matthias Pintscher with Mozart. It's a three-hour marathon, and it includes the World Premiere of "Study IV for Treatise on the Veil for String Quartet".
(Un)fortunately I have to leave after the second intermission to catch Bernarda Fink for an interview (and no idea what questions to ask, yet)... only to be back for the Camerata Salzburg under Holliger playing Ravel Clarinet Ctos. by Carter and Mozart (K622) with Fröst and a Haydn Symphony.
Life has a way of being agreeable sometimes, even if it puts two monstrously ugly high-rises in front of your hotel room window.
