Opuses vs. Opera

I know "opera" might sound confusing at first, but is it not the accepted standard plural of "opus"? Opuses, in any case, sounds vaguely dirty.

    What's wrong with the simple English "works" if you are referring to a series of unspecified pieces by a composer, or (as you suggest) "opera" if specific opus numbers are being mentioned?
